"The Finish Line/Tirota Social Impact Screenplay Competition has been career changing. It truly supports writers and great stories! I took the opportunity to receive feedback for my Chicago '66 script during the submissions process, and it was incredibly on point - definitely helped me strengthen my story and the screenplay. That's not all; one of the best surprises has been the amazing ongoing support of Jenny Frankfurt and Tirota post the competition. I feel like I won twice - first the unbelievable honor of being selected the 2020 winner and second, gaining such phenomenal advocacy on behalf of my work."

 Stephane Dunn

The Tirota/Finish Line Social Impact Script Competition is back for a second year, building on the success of the initial contest, which resulted in a slew of strong contenders, the best of them being Stephanie Dunn’s Chicago ’66. Noted producer Matthew Carnahan has come on to produce the script, which is being packaged.

The year 2 competition will again celebrate film and television scripts that seek to raise awareness and inspire change regarding urgent issues with critical relevance across our society now, such as racial, gender or economic inequality; climate change; drug addiction; the broken foster care system; gun violence and more.

Stories can be fictional or not, or a hybrid of both.  They can examine enduring issues from the perspective of history, the present day, or even the future.  The problems they probe can directly impact only discrete communities – or all of us equally.  We especially encourage submissions from individuals who have been historically under-represented in scriptwriting.

First and foremost, the competition will focus on recognizing stories that, overtly or even subtly, point toward the many opportunities individuals have to help alleviate societal problems via their personal concern and action. Examples of these opportunities include:

Ultimately, we’re looking for scripts that lend themselves to meaningful, constructive activism, not necessarily stories about activism.

The above list of topics is not all-encompassing.  If you have another subject in mind, submit your script, along with a brief explanation of the issue it addresses. We’ll consider all submissions.

DATES: The Tirota/Finish Line Social Impact Script Competition runs from Jan. 18 to June 10. Please click the FilmFreeway button on this page for information on how to submit your script.

PRIZES: The Winner of this competition will have their script optioned for $1,000 by Tirota, who will, supported by 20+ years of management experience from Finish Line, promote the script to a variety of targeted producers, agents, literary managers, executives, filmmakers, show runners and financiers.

The Winner will have a filmed table read of their script with Howard Fine's acting students.

They will also receive a copy of Final Draft 11 for download.

You may enter scripts in both The Finish Line Script Competition and the Tirota/Finish Line Script Competition. Please note: the links to submit via FilmFreeway on this specific page are to submit to the Tirota/Finish Line Script Competition only.

Scripts can be entered “as is” or you can request script development notes. As with the Finish Line Competition, you can rewrite and resubmit new drafts AT NO EXTRA COST.

We believe that storytelling is the glue that binds humanity together. We look forward to finding content that can effectively help push forward socially conscious issues that the world needs to better understand – and resolve.

We are all blessed with a voice. When we use it to educate and create understanding through socially relevant stories, we can help empower the change we want to see.

It is with that goal in mind that The Finish Line Script Competition, in partnership with Tirota, a purposeful content promotion agency, is launching The Tirota/Finish Line Social Impact Script Competition. We seek to celebrate writers of scripts for film and television that are pro-social, raising awareness and inspiring action in a world begging for more purposeful entertainment.

We’re interested in seeing scripts exploring a broad range of issues including – but not limited to:

In particular, the competition will recognize stories that point toward opportunities for audiences to support and engage in meaningful, corrective action.

The above list of topics is not all-encompassing.  If you have another subject in mind, submit your script, along with a brief explanation of the issue it addresses. We’ll consider all submissions.
